Kolkata: A 35-year-old hotel employee residing in the Baguiati area was allegedly stalked, assaulted and abducted by an acquaintance near New Market in central Kolkata, police said on Wednesday.
The victim was returning home from her workplace around 5:30 am in the last week of Sept when the incident occurred, according to cops. She approached cops on Oct 5. When the cab reached 36 Lenin Sarani under New Market PS, the suspect intercepted the vehicle, forced the victim out and physically assaulted her by punching and striking her in the face and eyes. The victim was eventually dropped off near her home in Baguiati around 11.30 am, several hours after the ordeal began.

The accused, who had befriended the worker over the past two years while visiting the hotel as a regular customer, allegedly followed her from her workplace in a yellow cab. The assailant then allegedly bundled the victim into his private SUV and drove her to his residence, where he subjected her to further physical abuse and assault. The victim allegedly sustained facial and eye injuries in the attack and faced ongoing threats from the perpetrator, who warned her against reporting the matter. Owing to acute physical distress and fear, the victim was initially unable to approach law enforcement. Upon recovering, she lodged a formal complaint detailing the assault, illegal confinement and criminal intimidation. Based on the complaint, police have initiated a case under relevant sections of the BNS pertaining to assault, wrongful confinement and criminal intimidation. Download the TOI App.
