A protest organized by the Cockroach Janta Party is scheduled for October 10 at Jantar Mantar
NEW DELHI: Ahead of the proposed October 10 protest at Jantar Mantar, Ashutosh Ranka has alleged that right-wing fringe groups have been mobilised from across the country to unleash violence against peaceful protesters, while asserting that the demonstration will remain peaceful.
Police have asked station house officers across the city to monitor around 2,800 people identified through the facial recognition system as having alleged criminal antecedents and ascertain whether any of them are moving towards New Delhi district. Police are also tracking those who helped arrange logistics for the previous agitation, including bus operators and other resource providers, and checking whether they have again been contacted for the October 10 protest. The October 10 protest comes months after the CJP-led agitation over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak in July, when thousands of protesters attempted to march towards Parliament and sought the resignation of then Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Police said 2,873 people who attended or were present near the July agitation at Jantar Mantar were identified as having alleged criminal antecedents. Of these, nearly 989 were allegedly linked to heinous offences. Police claimed 101 had been booked in murder cases, including 42 allegedly involved in two or more murder cases and 12 who had been booked in 10 or more murder cases. CJP spokesperson Saurav Das informed police on Wednesday about the planned October 10 protest. Since October 1, Delhi Police have requisitioned at least 20 companies of Central Armed Police Forces, deployed in and around Jantar Mantar. Nearly 4,000 security personnel have been deployed across the New Delhi area, while temporary detention facilities at stadiums are also being considered in case large numbers of protesters arrive and refuse to disperse.

“Haath hamara nahi uthega,” Ranka said in a post on social media, adding that any violence against people would not be tolerated. He also addressed Union home minister Amit Shah, saying, “India is watching. This time, it will not be about Delhi Police . The proposed protest is being organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which has not been granted permission by Delhi Police so far. Meanwhile, Delhi Police have stepped up preparations to prevent a repeat of the large mobilisation during the outfit’s previous protest in the capital. Local police have been asked to monitor bus bookings and organised movement of groups towards Delhi and New Delhi district. Entry routes from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and other adjoining areas are also under heightened surveillance, with barricades planned at key entry points. Officers have additionally been directed to engage with universities, colleges and PG accommodation owners and advise them to discourage students from joining the proposed demonstration.
