Chennai: Police on Thursday arrested a traffic police constable and a 26-year-old man in connection with the death of a 24-year-old guest worker near Sriperumbudur on Wednesday. The case was initially registered as a suspicious death but was altered to culpable homicide not amounting to murder after a postmortem revealed internal injuries.
The autopsy revealed a liver injury and internal haemorrhage.
Police said the findings established that the injuries sustained during the assault had led to his death. An argument broke out after Arif refused to sell it, following which Sailesh and three of his coworkers manhandled him. Police said Sailesh, who was drunk, repeatedly asked Arif for gutka on Tuesday night. Based on the findings, police altered the case to culpable homicide not amounting to murder and arrested Gnanamoorthy and Arif on Thursday.
A company supervisor later arrived and took them away. Sriperumbudur police initially registered a suspicious death case and sent the body to Kancheepuram Govt Hospital for postmortem. Though Sailesh left the premises, he was found dead in the rented portion of the house on Wednesday morning.
