Jangipara: An ACB team visited the Singti Agricultural Cooperative Society in Hooghly’s Jangipara on Thursday in connection with a case of alleged financial irregularities involving former state transport minister Snehashish Chakraborty.
“I deposited Rs 80,000, but when I needed the money for my daughter’s wedding, the officials failed to return it.
That is when I lodged a formal complaint,” said account holder Dinabandhu Malik. Locals told the team that the cooperative’s manager — recently arrested — and Chakraborty were involved in an alleged scam, said sources. Chakraborty, however, has told his aides that the loan has been repaid, said sources. The judicial commission investigating alleged irregularities during the Trinamool regime is also probing the role of former assembly speaker Biman Banerjee for alleged unauthorised construction inside the premises of Hari Mohan Ghosh College in Garden Reach, said sources.
The society management sanctioned a loan to the former minister illegally, a source stated.
