Navi Mumbai: A 38-year-old man arrested in a theft case by Navi Mumbai International Airport police died early Thursday morning while in police custody at the NRI Coastal police station’s lockup. The deceased was identified as Sanjay Kantu Yadav, a resident of Ulwe, who hails from Uttar Pradesh.

The court had remanded him to police custody till Oct 6 and then extended it till Oct 8. He did not even disclose his past medical history during the medical examination. Hence, he was lodged in the lockup at NRI Coastal police station.”

ACP Dhole said, “Prior to arresting Yadav on Oct 4 in the theft case, his medical examination was conducted at Panvel sub-district hospital.

As it is a medico-legal case, Yadav’s body has been sent to JJ hospital, Mumbai, for conducting a post-mortem, and the autopsy report is awaited to ascertain cause of death.”
