To enhance passengers’ safety, UP govt has sanctioned ₹1 crore for modern equipment for the GRP

Lucknow: Railway passengers across UP could soon experience enhanced safety, quicker response during emergencies and better crowd management as the state govt has sanctioned ₹1 crore for modern equipment for the Government Railway Police (GRP) in 2026-27. Govt has directed the UP police headquarters and GRP headquarters in Lucknow to complete procurement in accordance with financial and procurement rules by Mar 31, 2027.

Officials said the largest share of funds has been allocated for body-worn cameras, which are expected to improve transparency in police-public interactions. Similarly, metal detectors will strengthen security screening, helping police detect prohibited or suspicious objects before they enter station premises. Bluetooth speakers and loudhailers will allow officials to communicate more effectively with passengers. The technology push is part of a broader effort to modernise railway policing.
