He described the patient’s ability to walk upright on the second day: The wider industry impact

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Prayagraj : A 52-year-old patient from Chitrakoot, who had been suffering from severe pain and difficulty walking for five months, began walking upright on the second day after undergoing a complex spine surgery at Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital in Prayagraj.

Assistant professor in the orthopaedics department, Dr Anand Kumar, said the technique helps reduce nerve compression and provides stability to the affected spinal segment. MLN Medical College principal Dr A K Verma said the successful procedure reflected coordination among the orthopaedics and anaesthesia departments and operation theatre staff. The patient, Mannu Lal, had been experiencing a condition in which his upper body tilted towards the right while walking. Following initial investigations, the orthopaedics department team decided to perform Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion (TLIF) surgery to relieve pressure on the nerves and stabilise the affected portion of the spine. He described the patient’s ability to walk upright on the second day after surgery as encouraging. In TLIF surgery, screws and rods are used to stabilise the affected spinal segment, helping improve mobility and relieve symptoms caused by nerve compression. He added that providing advanced treatment to needy patients through the Ayushman Bharat scheme remained a priority.
