Industry seeks CM's intervention for land acquisition for proposed EV project

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis during the Kumbh Mela infrastructure projects review meeting in Nashik on Sunday

Nashik : A delegation of industrialists on Sunday met chief minister Devendra Fadnavis during his visit to Nashik and sought his intervention to expedite the acquisition of around 350 acres of land at Advan in Igatpuri taluka for Mahindra & Mahindra’s proposed electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing project.

He pointed out that Nashik recently secured investment commitments worth around Rs 52,000 crore from eight companies that signed memorandums of understanding with the state government during the Maharashtra investment summit held in Mumbai.

Nahar said the industry’s primary objective is to attract large-scale investments that can accelerate economic growth and generate employment opportunities for local youth. With the right policy support and infrastructure, Nashik can emerge as one of Maharashtra’s leading industrial destinations,” Nahar said. “These proposed projects have the potential to generate thousands of jobs and provide a major impetus to economic activity in the district.

The process has remained stalled for nearly 14 months due to opposition from a section of farmers and some political leaders demanding higher compensation for their land.

Industry leaders said inclusion in the infrastructure programme would significantly boost industrial growth, logistics infrastructure and employment opportunities in the region. The chief minister assured us that he would take up the matter with Union commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal and hold discussions on the issue,” Nahar said. Industrialists said chief minister responded positively and assured necessary support to bring fresh investment to the district.

The delegation, led by Nashik Industries & Manufacturers’ Association (NIMA) president Ashish Nahar, highlighted delays in the land acquisition process. A delegation pressed for Nashik’s inclusion in the second phase of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor project, besides discussing the Mahindra & Mahindra project. “We have been consistently pursuing Nashik’s inclusion in the second phase of the DMIC project. A delegation sought state support to attract another major automobile manufacturer evaluating investment opportunities in Maharashtra or Gujarat.
