Construction of the proposed Ram Jhula pedestrian bridge progresses on the Godavari river, around 500 metres from Ramkund in Nashik. The bridge, being developed as part of the city’s preparations for Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027, aims to improve pedestrian connectivity between Old Nashik and Panchavati.
However, concerns were raised that the structure could invite issues related to the Model Code of Conduct during election periods due to its resemblance to an election symbol.
Mayor Himgauri Aher during the recent General Body meeting said the modifications were approved after considering expert opinions, public suggestions and future requirements. Following deliberations, the civic administration decided to replace the bow with a towering replica of Lord Ram, which will serve as the bridge’s central visual attraction and remain visible from both sides of the river. She also endorsed the additional expenditure proposed by the civic administration.
A civic official said that changes to Ram Jhula project, Nashik’s first pedestrian bridge across Godavari river, were introduced following suggestions from public representatives and experts.
“The revisions focus on long-term utility ahead of next year’s mega religious gathering, which is expected to attract millions of pilgrims,” the official said.
