Mamdani argued that firing at a moving vehicle carrying a five-year-old child was unacceptable and contrasted ICE’s actions with the New York Police Department’s approach. Mamdani also held discussions with Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin over the incident. However, he acknowledged that the talks, which lasted about two hours, ended without an agreement.
Mamdani has said that ICE’s operations threaten public safety, while demanding that federal agents leave the city. The shooting has intensified the dispute between the mayor and the Trump administration over federal immigration enforcement in New York City.
