The rituals were conducted according to Vedic traditions, with prayers for the welfare of all. Gorakhpur : The special rituals for Sharadiya Navratri began at Gorakshpeeth, the spiritual seat of Guru Gorakhnath, on Sunday with Gorakshpeethadhishwar chief minister Yogi Adityanath performing Kalash Sthapana at the Shaktipeeth in Gorakhnath temple.

On the first day of Navratri, Yogi worshipped Goddess Shailputri, the first manifestation of Goddess Durga. The rituals on Pratipada concluded with prayers, recitation of sacred texts, aarti and a prayer seeking forgiveness.

Led by the temple’s chief priest, Yogi Kamalnath, the procession comprising saints and seers proceeded towards the mythologically significant Bhim Sarovar amid the sounds of traditional musical instruments, including bells, trumpets and conch shells, and chants in praise of Goddess Durga. After filling the ‘kalash’ (urn) with water and circumambulating the sarovar (pond), the procession returned to the Shaktipeeth. The CM personally carried the water-filled ‘kalash’ into the sanctum sanctorum and installed it amid Vedic chants. The chief minister first offered prayers to Goddess Durga, Lord Shiva and the trident associated with Guru Gorakhnath, followed by the worship of Gauri and Ganesha. The recitation of the Devi Bhagavata and the Durga Saptashati also commenced at the sanctum sanctorum of the Durga temple. The rituals concluded with aarti and distribution of prasad.
