Chennai: Greater Chennai Corporation has added 356 vehicles, 2,873 garbage bins and other equipment worth a total of ₹65 crore to strengthen solid waste management and prepare for the northeast monsoon. This includes 283 battery-operated vehicles, 37 refuse compactors, 28 two-tonne-capacity vehicles, seven hook loaders, and one mechanical sweeper. The equipment also includes 2,854 bins with a capacity of 1,100 liters each and 18 skip bins with a capacity of 20 cubic meters each. GCC has about 27,000 sanitation workers, 12,000 of whom are under Sumeet Elko.
