Lucknow: Hardoi cyber police arrested two men from Morena in Madhya Pradesh for allegedly duping a youth of Rs 19.16 lakh by promising overseas employment

Police said the case began in Nov 2025 when Masood Ali, a resident of Mallawan in Hardoi district, filed a complaint at the cyber crime police station. Circle officer Anil Singh said police recovered Rs 35,670 cash and six mobile phones allegedly used to manage the fraud-linked accounts and communications. SP Ashok Meena said the group recruited financially vulnerable people to open mule accounts, paying Rs 10,000 to open an account and another Rs 5,000 after transactions were completed.

Police said withdrawals were made through ATM cards and cheques with the alleged assistance of account holders. Police said Madhya Pradesh police had earlier arrested eight other suspected members and were seeking custody of the two arrested men for interrogation. Ali alleged he was drawn in by social media advertisements offering jobs abroad. He claimed the accused, identified as Mohammad Umar , Mohammad Ali and their associates, persuaded him to transfer money in multiple instalments on the assurance that they would arrange documentation and placement outside India. During investigation, the cyber unit examined call detail records, transaction details and digital footprints linked to the numbers and accounts used to approach the complainant. Investigators also traced six bank accounts used to route the cheated amount, including four accounts in Firozabad and two in Bhopal.

Based on technical surveillance and location tracing, a police team tracked the suspects to Morena and arrested them in a raid on Friday night.
