Kolkata: Two 17-year-old girls from Mizoram were rescued in a suspected trafficking case in Darjeeling district after a 61-year-old Ahmedabad man was intercepted near the Panitanki border while allegedly taking one of them to Nepal for casino work.
Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, POCSO Act , Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act and Information Technology Act.
Both girls were produced before the Child Welfare Committee.
The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), with support from Kosi Lok Manch, a partner organisation of Just Rights for Children, intercepted the man on Oct 11. Officials alleged that a check of his mobile phone revealed explicit material and child sexual abuse material involving minors.
During questioning, the girl said she knew him as a long-time family friend.
Further questioning led to the rescue of another 17-year-old girl from Mizoram from the man’s Siliguri residence, where she was allegedly being kept as a domestic helper.
