Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar : Maharashtra Electricity Workers Federation has donated Rs 5 lakh to Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to support drought-hit farmers battling crop losses, drinking water shortages and a growing fodder crisis across parts of the state.

It had contributed Rs 5 lakh during last year’s floods and supported relief efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic. Federation president Vitthal Bhalerao and general secretary Arun Piwal have communicated the decision to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and announced support for govt’s ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts.

“With Marathwada and other regions facing crop failure, drinking water scarcity and fodder shortage due to poor rainfall, we wanted to support govt’s relief and rehabilitation efforts,” Bhalerao said. Affiliated to the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, the federation said it follows the principle of “Nation First” and has extended assistance during past disasters as well. The organisation said collective support would strengthen the state’s efforts to tackle one of the worst water and agricultural crises facing several regions this year.

Representing thousands of power sector employees across Maharashtra, the federation has appealed to trade unions, social organisations and citizens to come forward and assist drought-affected farmers.
