Lucknow: An Uzbek woman, Medina Khan Nishonova, lodged at a Nari Niketan (women’s shelter) in Rae Bareli, fled the facility on Oct 10, allegedly after being denied proper amenities and permission to speak to her son on the phone. She was later found by Salon SHO Sandeep Rai, who brought her back to the centre.
Nishonova was at the One-Stop Centre since Oct 6. She was booked at Salon police station on Oct 5 under Section 23(A) of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, for remaining in India despite the expiry of the e-tourist visa. On Oct 10, Nishonova told officials she was unhappy with hygiene conditions at the facility and that her complaints to centre in charge Astha Jyoti were not addressed.
