Out of 1,638 temporary staff, 1,054 personnel will be engaged for three months, while 584 staff members will be appointed for four months. The recruitment plan includes 127 specialist medical officers, 141 MBBS doctors, 201 BAMS doctors, 233 staff nurses, 165 auxiliary nurse midwives (ANMs), 198 pharmacists and 573 support staff. NMC currently operates five hospitals, 30 urban primary health centres, more than 81 Arogya Vardhini centres and 25 Hindu Hridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray hospital, Aapla Davakhana clinics across Nashik.

An NMC health official said the additional workforce will be deployed at the municipal corporation’s hospitals and temporary healthcare facilities planned for the religious congregation, where lakhs of sadhus, devotees and tourists are expected to gather. The recruitment proposal is a part of broader healthcare preparedness measures by the civic body for Kumbh Mela. The official added that the move aims to ensure adequate healthcare, emergency medical response and disease surveillance during Kumbh. Despite complaints from residents about shortcomings in the existing healthcare system, the civic body has decided to increase its medical workforce temporarily to meet excess demand during Kumbh. Another NMC official pointed out that a large influx of pilgrims increases the risk of infectious diseases, epidemics, accidents and other medical emergencies. To address these challenges, NMC plans to strengthen existing hospitals, set up additional healthcare facilities and temporary hospitals, health centres and intensive care units at key locations, including ghat areas.
