New Delhi: Residents will soon have dedicated kiosks across Delhi to dispose of damaged idols and worship materials, with the city administration planning 250 such facilities across Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) wards to curb dumping in public spaces and water bodies.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed Thursday at the behest of chief minister Rekha Gupta, the CMO stated. Mayor Pravesh Wahi said the kiosks would help ensure the dignified disposal of religious materials while keeping public spaces clean. The initiative will be implemented by MCD in collaboration with Plastindia Foundation. The kiosks will allow residents to deposit damaged idols and other ritual materials after ceremonies. The collected items will be segregated and sent for scientific disposal and recycling, helping prevent indiscriminate dumping and immersion in public places and water bodies. Gupta urged residents to use the designated facilities and avoid leaving worship materials in public spaces. Under the arrangement, MCD will be responsible for staffing, cleanliness, collection and transportation of materials to processing sites, while Delhi govt will coordinate with the agencies concerned.
