Kochi: The police arrested Ananthu, 21, of Idukki, for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a woman at Kaloor on Wednesday.
Palarivattom Police arrested Abdul Basid, 29, of Kozhikode, who had been absconding in a case registered for allegedly raping a woman after promising to marry her. Tripunithura: A 55-year-old man was killed after a speeding truck knocked down his two-wheeler and ran over him near Petta Metro station in Tripunithura on Thursday.
The accused and the complainant were previously acquainted, according to the police. A case has been registered and further probe is on, the police said. The woman had distanced herself from him following his alleged misconduct, after which he developed a grudge against her. When she resisted, he allegedly slapped her, tore her clothes and assaulted her. He fled after people gathered at the spot on hearing her cries. A case was registered at the Ernakulam Town North police station based on the woman’s complaint. Basid had been staying in Dubai after allegedly committing the offence. The police had issued a lookout notice against him. When Basid arrived at Karipur airport, airport authorities detained him after identifying him through the lookout notice and informed the police. The deceased C T Pradeep was an amenity worker at the Ernakulam district court.
On Wednesday, the accused allegedly followed the woman while she was walking along Azad Road in Kaloor and caught hold of her at an isolated stretch. With the assistance of the cyber cell, police traced the accused to a hostel in the Kaloor area and arrested him on Friday.
