Agra: A 240-member delegation from Japan’s Yamanashi Prefecture, led by governor Kotaro Nagasaki and vice-governor Junichi Ishidera, visited Taj Mahal on Thursday during its engagements in Uttar Pradesh aimed at strengthening industrial, economic, cultural and technological ties between the state and Japan. Officials said the engagements could create opportunities for Japanese investment in manufacturing, clean energy and technology, besides generating employment in the state. UP tourism and culture minister Jaiveer Singh, tourism director general Ved Prakash Mishra, Agra district magistrate Manish Bansal, police commissioner Deepak Kumar and other officials welcomed the delegation, which also included Nagasaki’s wife. The visitors were greeted with bouquets and tilak, while Braj folk artists performed a traditional peacock dance and other cultural programmes as they proceeded towards the monument. Before visiting Taj Mahal, Singh and senior district officials interacted with Nagasaki, Ishidera and other delegates over lunch, while after the visit, the minister presented Nagasaki with a Taj Mahal souvenir. The delegation subsequently left for Lucknow. The visit formed part of the delegation’s engagements in India for the UP-Japan Investment Meet and Business Conclave, which sought to promote investment, trade and tourism between Japan and Uttar Pradesh.
