Mathura : A special court in Mathura has sentenced a Delhi-based couple to life imprisonment for murdering their 21-year-old daughter in a case of “honour killing” and dumping her body in a trolley bag on the Yamuna Expressway .
The court also imposed fines of Rs 7,000 and Rs 6,000 on the father and mother, respectively. The incident dates to Nov 18, 2022, when local police recovered an unidentified body packed inside a red trolley bag near the Agricultural Research Centre on the Yamuna Expressway link road in Raya in Mathura district, according to additional district govt counsel (ADGC) Mukesh Babu Goswami. Mathura police subsequently arrested the duo and filed a chargesheet in March 2023 under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence).
An autopsy revealed a gunshot wound to the victim’s chest along with signs of physical trauma across her head and limbs. Special judge Arvind Kumar Yadav convicted Nitesh Yadav and his wife Brajbala, both in their 50s, holding them guilty under IPC sections for murder and destruction of evidence. Non-payment of the fine will result in an additional two years of imprisonment. Police identified the victim three days later as Ayushi Yadav, a resident of Delhi’s Badarpur and a Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) student. the parents faced trial after pleading not guilty, claiming they had no role in their daughter’s death Although later granted bail by Allahabad high court.
The order, delivered on Wednesday, was uploaded to the court’s official website on Thursday.
Father Charged with Murder After Daughter’s Death Following Caste Conflict
On November 17, 2022, Nitesh Yadav, an electronics shop owner in Delhi, fatally shot his daughter Ayushi with a licensed pistol. This act followed a heated argument stemming from Ayushi’s marriage to a man from a different caste, which had angered her father. After the shooting, Yadav and his partner concealed Ayushi’s body in their home. They later packed it into a suitcase and transported it to Mathura, where they disposed of it under the cover of darkness. Yadav has been charged with murder as the investigation unfolds.
During the trial, the prosecution presented 11 witnesses, along with digital and forensic evidence that established the couple’s direct involvement. Rejecting their pleas for leniency based on past clean records, the court ruled the evidence conclusive and awarded both life terms.
