Judge Ravi Kumar Diwakar has awarded death sentences to 22 convicts in Muzaffarnagar.
MUZAFFARNAGAR: A total of 97 pending files involving murder and other heinous offences have been recalled from the court of additional district and sessions judge Ravi Kumar Diwakar, days after it emerged that he had awarded death sentences to 22 convicts in 10 cases over four months. With the 22 death sentences awarded in Muzaffarnagar, the total number of capital punishment verdicts delivered by Diwakar during his judicial career stands at 35, including 13 during his posting in Bareilly. None of the death sentences, however, can be carried out unless confirmed by the high court.
Death Sentences Issued in Muzaffarnagar Murder Cases
In Muzaffarnagar, a series of death sentences were handed down for various murder cases throughout the year. The first notable verdict occurred on April 6, when three individuals were sentenced to death for the murder of advocate Sameer Saifi. Following this, on April 28, a woman and her three sons received death sentences in a separate case.
The trend continued with additional sentences: one convict was sentenced to death on May 30, and two more on June 20. July saw a significant increase in capital punishment sentences, with one convict sentenced on July 2, two on July 6, and four on July 17. The month of August also witnessed further death sentences, with one convict receiving capital punishment on August 12, followed by four more on August 13.
