The Kalpasar project, first announced in the 1980s, envisages building a 30 km dam across the Gulf of Khambhat to establish a fresh water coastal reservoir for irrigation, drinking, and industrial purposes. The project, with a 30 km sea dam, will have the capacity to store 10 billion cubic metres of fresh water. A 10-lane road link will also be set up over the dam, reducing the distance between Saurashtra and central Gujarat. MSID:: 128754115 413 |
