A 47-year-old businesswoman was allegedly cheated out of gold: The wider industry impact

Ahmedabad: A 47-year-old businesswoman was allegedly cheated out of gold bullion weighing 1.3 kg and worth Rs 1.74 crore after being lured with 2% returns monthly on her gold investment. She was allegedly made to sign an agreement on which the accused had forged the signature and thumb impression of a man living in the US. She filed the complaint on Thursday, naming two insurance agents and a notary.

In 2025, two of the accused approached the complainant with an investment proposal. When she said she did not have money to invest, they allegedly offered a scheme involving physical gold to be invested in the futures market and promised returns equivalent to 2% of the gold’s value every month. They also assured her that the gold would be returned within 15 days of a request.

Her family knew one of the accused for a decade through investments in life insurance policies and mutual funds, according to the complaint. The other accused was a chief financial officer in a company run by the first accused.
