Ahmedabad: A crime branch team arrested a 60-year-old Mumbai resident with 1.9kg of charas worth Rs 4.8 lakh in Naroda.
The accused, Sushil Birmanand Verma, had allegedly travelled from Jammu with the contraband and was on his way to Mumbai via Delhi and Jaipur when he was intercepted, police said.
Besides the charas, police also seized a mobile phone, Rs 9,300 in cash, an Aadhaar card and a bag. The total value of the seized items was estimated at Rs 4,80,550. Verma was allegedly sent to Jammu by a man named Vaibhav , who is based in Mumbai, to collect the consignment, according to police. During questioning, Verma told police that he planned to travel from Jammu to Delhi, Jaipur and Ahmedabad before reaching Mumbai. Police began attempting to trace Vaibhav, who allegedly arranged the consignment, and the unidentified person in Jammu who supplied the contraband. Download the TOI App.
A case was registered against him under Sections 8(c), 22(c) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
