Referring to 2047 as a landmark year for the country, Patel called upon citizens to contribute towards building a developed India by focusing on self-reliance, welfare of the poor, cleanliness, environmental protection and nation-building.

A multi-faith prayer meeting was organised at the memorial and attended by forests and environment minister Arjun Modhwadia, spiritual leader Ramesh Oza and a large number of citizens, according to an official statement. Addressing the gathering, Patel said Gandhi’s ideals of truth, non-violence and universal brotherhood continued to remain relevant across the world. He said multi-faith prayers foster mutual respect, peace, harmony and national unity by recognising the equal right of people to practise their faith with dignity. The chief minister said Gandhi’s vision of Swaraj and cleanliness had found contemporary expression through the goals of an Atmanirbhar Bharat and Swachh Bharat Mission , which he described as a mass movement. He also highlighted efforts to connect younger generations with khadi through the message of “Khadi for Nation, Khadi for Fashion”. Modhwadia said Gandhi’s philosophy of truth and non-violence remained relevant amid conflicts across the world. Assembly secretary Chetan Pandya and Gandhinagar MLA Ritaben Patel participated in the programme, according to the official statement.

He urged people to make cleanliness a daily habit rather than limiting it to commemorative occasions, saying a clean home, street and nation would be the most fitting tribute to Gandhi. The birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was also observed at Gujarat assembly, where floral tributes were paid at his statue in the secretariat complex and at his portrait inside the House.
