Ahmedabad: A 33-year-old businessman from Paldi has approached the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB), alleging that three men cheated him of Rs 24.2 lakh after promising to secure a Rs 31.2 crore govt contract to supply two lakh school bags in Assam . The complainant, who runs a firm that supplies products through govt tenders, said he met Sudhir Chaudhary of Mumbai and Gagan Saxena of Bhopal in Guwahati in 2022 while exploring a boat-supply contract for Assam’s disaster management department. In 2023, they allegedly offered to arrange a school-bag supply order from the Matak Autonomous Council through Hemantakumar Adhikari. Chaudhary reportedly shared documents on WhatsApp showing a proposed order for two lakh bags worth Rs 31.2 crore. The businessman sent his employee, Jaydeep Bhensdadiya, to Guwahati with Rs 10 lakh to meet the accused and learn about the procedure. The complainant later arranged Rs 9 lakh in cash for them. On April 29, 2023, he transferred Rs 15 lakh to a Punjab National Bank account and Rs 14.7 lakh to a Yes Bank account linked to Adhikari’s organisation, Adhikari Pat Muga Udyog. He also sent Rs 50,000 to Saxena through Paytm. Including the cash payment, he made a total payment of Rs 39.2 lakh. After Adhikari returned Rs 15 lakh, a cheque for Rs 14.7 lakh allegedly bounced twice.
