The city received intense spells of rain around 10am and 11.15am, followed by another downpour around noon, leading to widespread waterlogging and traffic disruption across several areas. Before issuing the written advisory, the DEO had verbally instructed schools between 10.30am and 11am to assess local conditions and decide whether classes should be suspended. In a separate incident, Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) rescued around 25 students after a Zebar School bus got stranded near Mumatpura due to waterlogging.
The formal advisory was released nearly two hours later. DEO Rohit Chaudhary said schools had been asked to take precautionary measures wherever local conditions were adverse and ensure that students were not exposed to any risk while deciding whether to continue classes. Ahmedabad : As heavy rain battered Ahmedabad through Sunday night and Monday morning, the district education office (DEO) issued a formal advisory on school closures only around 1pm, by which time most schools in the city had already declared holidays on their own. The advisory directed schools in Ahmedabad’s East and West zones to evaluate factors such as rainfall intensity, road conditions, and waterlogging before taking a call on continuing classes. Schools were asked to prioritise student safety, particularly the risks associated with commuting during adverse weather, and take appropriate precautionary measures wherever required. Institutions were also instructed to promptly inform parents and students about any decision regarding suspension of classes. Heavy rain also disrupted school transportation. An Eklavya School bus carrying students was stranded in waterlogged conditions near Club O7 Road in Shela. The school arranged another bus to transfer the students before sending them home safely.
