Ahmedabad : A woman from the Jodhpur area has lodged a complaint with the Cybercrime police after allegedly falling victim to a sim-swap or e-sim fraud, in which an unidentified person gained control of her mobile number and transferred Rs 4,400 from her Kotak Mahindra Bank account. She checked her account after her husband asked her to transfer some money and found that Rs 4,400 had already been transferred to another bank account, according to the complaint. The complainant immediately reported the incident through the 1930 cybercrime helpline and approached police.

The woman approached a person claiming to be associated with a telecom company after experiencing difficulties while porting her mobile number, according to the complaint. The complainant said she received messages related to the activation process, but her mobile network stopped functioning soon afterwards. “My sim stopped working and when I called the number given to me, it was switched off,” she told police.
The individual allegedly guided her through the process of activating a new e-sim and asked her to share details and complete OTP-based verification. Despite repeated attempts to contact the person who had assisted her, she found that the number had been switched off. However, she subsequently discovered that an unauthorised transaction had taken place from her bank account. The beneficiary account was allegedly linked to a person residing in Jharkhand. The woman later visited an Airtel store, where she obtained a replacement sim card and had the earlier connection deactivated.
