Ahmedabad: At least 28 FIRs have been registered on serious complaints received through the Gujarat DGP office’s Jan Sampark Karyalaya (public grievance office) in the past eight months.
The office, which began functioning at Police Bhavan, Gandhinagar , on Feb 4, has received 310 in-person representations from complainants across Gujarat, including remote areas of Kutch, Saurashtra and south Gujarat. In about 28 cases, serious and prima facie substance was found, and directions were issued for immediate FIR registration at the respective police stations. The office has also sought progress reports in around 67 cases, allowing senior officers to monitor the complaints beyond their initial forwarding and follow up on the action taken.
Officials said complaints are scrutinised on the basis of facts and available evidence before being referred to the concerned police units. Police said eight applicants who allegedly made false or malicious representations were also subjected to legal action after scrutiny. The initiative, however, has not been limited to supporting complainants. A dedicated team, headed by an officer of the rank of police inspector, receives and processes the petitions under a standard operating procedure and coordinates with senior police officers in the concerned districts and cities.
