Autorickshaws to ferry AMC staff through traffic bottlenecks —: The wider industry impact

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Ahmedabad : Facing a growing backlog of civic complaints and pressure to resolve grievances within stipulated timelines, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to deploy autorickshaws to improve field operations and speed up complaint redressal.

The civic body is leasing three-wheelers, with a preference for electric vehicles over compressed natural gas (CNG) models. The move is aimed at enabling municipal technicians, supervisors and inspection staff to reach complaint sites quickly, particularly in congested areas where larger civic vehicles often get delayed in traffic.

The vehicles will be deployed across crucial departments, including the water supply and pumping division, the central laboratory for urgent water testing, the streetlight department, which has recently been receiving the highest number of complaints, and the central workshop, according to a senior AMC administration official. Apart from routine daytime duties such as monitoring water supply operations between 6am and 2pm, the fleet will also remain available for emergency deployment during civic disturbances, utility failures, and public holidays.
