Couple caught with 1.9kg hydroponic marijuana on Ahmedabad airport
Ahmedabad: A team of Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of customs department intercepted a couple from Vadodara in their fifties and seized 1.9kg of hydroponic marijuana from their baggage at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. The total weight of the recovered contraband from the 10 packets was 1,928g,” the release stated. The couple was arrested and the contraband seized under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, officials said.
“Based on passenger profiling and X-ray scanning, officers of the AIU of Ahmedabad customs intercepted one female passenger and one male passenger arriving from Bangkok on Wednesday,” the department said in a release. “Upon opening and examining the said concealed layers, green-coloured substances were found concealed in five vacuum-packed packets in each of the two trolley bags. “Further probe is on to ascertain the sender and the receiver of the contraband and how the couple got involved,” an official said.
During a detailed examination of their baggage, officers found that concealed layers had been created inside the trolley bags. Preliminary testing of the recovered substance returned a positive result for marijuana or ganja.
