Ahmedabad: For nearly two years, a 30-year-old woman waited for a marriage that never happened. She has now accused the man she was in a relationship with of rape, assault, threats to defame her and taking around Rs 7 lakh from her.
The woman moved to Gandhinagar in 2022 to prepare for govt recruitment exams, according to her complaint. She came in contact with the accused through Snapchat in 2024. On May 8, 2026, he allegedly left again, saying he would return in around 10 days. The woman also alleged that the accused took around Rs 7 lakh from her in cash in instalments since they became acquainted.

The woman alleged that he told her that he ran a logistics business in Nadiad and promised to marry her and keep her as his wife for life, she said. She said that when she later called or messaged him, he threatened to defame her and damage her reputation. He did not return the money, she said.
In a complaint with Adalaj police, the woman alleged that he repeatedly promised to marry her and later abandoned her. After exchanging phone numbers, the two gradually became friends. She agreed as she had been speaking to him for some time. She initially chose not to file a police complaint as she still wanted to marry him. However, after she submitted an application, police called the accused to the station. He allegedly promised to marry her and returned to stay with her for about a month. On Oct 17, 2024, the accused allegedly visited her rented accommodation and established a physical relationship with her. In July 2025, they shifted to a flat in Jasmine Green-1 at Khodiyar village, according to the complaint. On Nov 2, 2025, the accused allegedly left for his native place, saying he had to attend his brother’s wedding.
The woman alleged that he continued visiting her at intervals and had physical relations with her while repeatedly putting off the marriage. The woman further alleged that she later learnt that the accused consumed alcohol. He also allegedly assaulted her after returning home drunk. She also alleged that he stopped her from accepting marriage proposals from other families, repeatedly assuring her that he would marry her and would not let her marry anyone else. When he did not return despite repeated calls, the two argued over the phone.
She later stayed with him for several months at a friend’s flat in Godrej Garden City before the two moved to a rented flat in Chenpur.
The woman alleged that he then told her to leave him and die. She subsequently consumed phenyl and was admitted to a hospital, according to the complaint.
