Last week, the state govt approved the release of 600 cusecs of water from the Machhu-2 reservoir through the Sauni scheme to meet water requirements in Devbhumi Dwarka and Jamnagar districts. He said the state’s GST growth rose from 20% last month to 28% this month.
Deputy chief minister Harsh Sanghavi told reporters after the meeting that all concerned departments had been asked to ensure low-rainfall districts do not face shortages. Sanghavi also said Gujarat’s GST collection growth had accelerated despite the reduction in GST rates in the interest of citizens. Gandhinagar : Gujarat govt has directed departments to ensure adequate drinking water and fodder supplies in districts that have recorded deficient rainfall this year, including Kachchh, Jamnagar and Devbhumi Dwarka. Patel assessed the rainfall status across districts and instructed the administration to remain prepared to meet the water and fodder needs of residents and livestock in affected areas. Ministers in charge of the respective districts have also been specifically asked to undertake a comprehensive review of the situation and ensure necessary arrangements on the ground. The govt’s intervention comes amid growing concerns over water and fodder availability in areas that have received inadequate rainfall, particularly in communities dependent on livestock. Officials have been asked to monitor the situation and take preventive measures. The decision was taken considering the needs of residents and farmers in the two Saurashtra districts, where rainfall has remained below expectations. The region largely depends on local reservoirs for irrigation, but weak rainfall has put pressure on reservoir storage.
The situation was reviewed at a cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar on Wednesday.
The cabinet also reviewed cargo handling at Gujarat’s ports, with Sanghavi pointing out that a single port had handled 50 million metric tonnes of cargo.
He said the increase in cargo movement indicated higher manufacturing output and a rise in exports from Gujarat.
Sanghavi said India’s GDP growth rate stood at 7.8% despite global economic challenges, reflecting the resilience of the Indian economy.
