On Thursday, the Gujarat labour department held an awareness programme in Gandhinagar aimed at industry representatives and workers. The focus of the event was on the Centre’s four new labour codes, which consolidate provisions from 29 existing labour laws. The programme highlighted the importance of enhanced compliance, the creation of safer workplaces, and improved coordination between employers and employees.
Addressing the gathering, Bavaliya said the four codes were designed to simplify multiple labour laws while maintaining a balance between the interests of industry and workers. These provisions, he said, aim to safeguard workers’ rights while supporting efficient industrial operations. Labour, skill development and employment secretary Lochan Sehra said the department was gradually moving its services and processes online to improve efficiency and transparency.
Labour and employment minister Kunvarji Bavaliya chaired the programme, which was attended by minister of state Kantilal Amrutiya. Discussions centred on the key provisions of the new labour codes and their likely impact on industries and workers. He highlighted that the new framework gives significant importance to worker safety, healthy working conditions, access to clean drinking water, wages, and social security benefits.
