Man burgles estranged wife's home, installs tracking device on her scooter

In Ahmedabad, a 49-year-old woman discovered that her estranged husband was allegedly responsible for a recent house break-in and for placing a tracking device on her vehicle. This shocking revelation came to light through her police complaint, highlighting serious concerns about personal safety and privacy in domestic disputes.

The woman, who has been living separately from her husband since April 2023, approached Sarkhej police on Wednesday alleging that the man first emptied her locked house of household items and later installed a tracker on her scooter to keep tabs on her whereabouts. The alleged theft took place on March 21. When she returned, items worth over Rs 1.5 lakh had vanished.

The woman told police that she had locked her house and left for her parental home with her three children the previous day. Police said the woman has already filed maintenance and domestic violence cases against the accused, with both matters currently pending. The woman told police she suspected her estranged husband had planted the device to monitor her movements. In her complaint, she said the alleged surveillance amounted to an intrusion into her private life and left her and her children living in fear and mental distress.

She checked CCTV footage from the housing society and was stunned by what she saw. The footage allegedly showed her estranged husband arriving with a group of friends, unlocking the house and loading household items into two small goods vehicles before driving away.

Based on her complaint, Sarkhej police registered a case of stalking, house trespass and theft against the estranged husband and his associates and launched an investigation.
