Goods worth Rs 1.7 crore were supplied to one firm, while steel plates valued at Rs 2 crore were supplied to another
Ahmedabad: A Mumbai-based steel trader has filed a complaint with the city crime branch alleging that he was cheated of Rs 3.7 crore in a business transaction involving the supply of steel plates to firms in Ahmedabad and nearby areas. The trader supplied the plates between Oct 2015 and February 2017 but did not receive payment, according to the complaint. The trader, who has been running his company since 1997, said he had previously done business with a firm in Ahmedabad. In Sept 2015, the firm’s proprietor allegedly approached him and said his company was facing difficulties in generating C-forms required for the transactions. Goods worth Rs 1.7 crore were supplied to one firm, while steel plates valued at Rs 2 crore were supplied to another, the complaint stated.
The proprietor allegedly introduced two other businesses and said their C-forms could be used for the purchases. The trader said the proprietor’s company assured him that it would pay for the supplied material. Based on these assurances, the trader dispatched steel plates to the locations specified for the transactions. The complainant alleged that despite receiving the material through the arrangement, the proprietor failed to make the promised payments. He has sought legal action against the proprietor and others found involved in the alleged fraud. Representatives of the two recipient firms have been named as potential witnesses.
