On Thursday, Oct 1, hundreds of Nirmal University observed a Black Day and held a protest demanding action against the unidentified accused besides better security arrangements around the girls’ hostels
The complaint states that the alleged incident occurred around 11.52pm on Sept 29 and was recorded by a student from the ninth-floor lobby of H4 block’s B wing.
On Wednesday, an email purportedly written by a student and circulated among student organisations and media alleged that incidents involving workers watching female students and engaging in obscene behaviour were “not uncommon”. Police said these allegations were separate from the complaint concerning the viral video. The university checked with workers at the H5 block site but no immediate identification could be made. Meanwhile, dressed in black, students gathered near Law Building and demanded accountability from the university administration. Separately, another message purportedly by a student alleged that an economics professor had made inappropriate comments and threatened female students.
Ahmedabad: A day after videos purportedly showing a man engaging in a sexually obscene act near Nirma University girls’ hostel block went viral, the university chief security officer on Wednesday lodged a complaint with Sola police against an unidentified person. On Thursday, students observed a ‘Black Day’ and held protests demanding action and expressing concerns over safety and security arrangements. It adds that university officials were informed about the video on Wednesday morning.
