Under the approved structure, parking a two-wheeler for one hour in high-density areas will cost Rs 20, while a four-wheeler will be charged Rs 40. In low-density areas, the hourly fee will be Rs 10 for two-wheelers and Rs 20 for four-wheelers. At multi-level parking facilities, the hourly charge will be Rs 10 for two-wheelers and Rs 20 for four-wheelers. At present, AMC charges Rs 5 per hour for two-wheelers and Rs 15 per hour for four-wheelers at multi-level and on-street parking sites. With the proposed hike, the one-hour fee for two-wheelers across city parking facilities will rise to Rs 10–Rs 20, while four-wheeler charges will increase to Rs 30–Rs 40 at several locations. Parking has been prohibited within a 50m radius of more than 250 junctions in western Ahmedabad, and no-parking boards are being installed. The city’s parking policy, approved by the state govt in Oct 2021, provides for a parking cell comprising AMC, police and RTO officials, along with domain experts, to enforce parking bylaws. Consultants appointed by AMC are preparing a 10-year parking plan, beginning with the three western zones. AMC currently provides parking for 42,991 two-wheelers and 10,860 four-wheelers across 175 locations, including 73 on-street sites, 66 off-street sites, seven multi-level facilities and 29 under-bridge pay-and-park operations. These contracts generate annual revenue of about Rs 2.4 crore. AMC also plans pay-and-park facilities under more flyovers and on-street parking at 200 additional locations.

Parking to get costlier in Ahmedabad An AMC official said higher rates have been proposed for the western part of Ahmedabad and four zones in the Old City, compared with charges in the South, North and East zones. The Town Planning Committee has shown readiness to reduce the proposed charges for two-wheelers, and an amendment will be placed before the standing committee,” the official said. Officials said the hike was linked to AMC’s wider plan to regulate parking and reduce congestion caused by haphazard vehicle parking. To resolve this issue, the AMC is drafting a parking plan to expand on-street parking and other parking facilities over the next decade,” an AMC official said.
The revision is part of the Parking Development Plan being implemented under the city’s parking policy by the AMC’s estate department. Once cleared by the standing committee, motorists will pay higher fees at all municipal parking locations, with steeper charges proposed for congested areas and high-traffic zones. “Parking in the Old City will attract higher fees. “The problem of traffic congestion in Ahmedabad has worsened.
