A controversy has emerged at a university in Ahmedabad due to allegations of inappropriate behavior by a professor towards a student during an event. A video claiming to show the incident has gained significant traction on social media. In response, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has threatened to organize protests unless the professor issues a formal apology.
University Professor Allegedly Threatens Student During Event
A troubling incident occurred at Nirma University when a professor, H K Patel, allegedly confronted a student during a public program. Reports indicate that after a comment was made from the audience, Patel called the student onto the stage, physically restrained him by the collar, and issued threats in front of attendees. This confrontation was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media platforms.
In response to the incident, Vedant Tomar, the state vice president of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), stated that the student body is demanding an apology from Professor Patel. They are also calling for an impartial investigation by Nirma University. Furthermore, NSUI has requested a written commitment from the university to ensure that similar incidents do not happen in the future and to establish a formal process for students to voice their concerns and grievances.
R N Patel, the director general of Nirma University, has stated that he is unaware of the incident but will look into the matter.
NSUI warned it will launch a peaceful protest on the university campus if the professor does not apologise and the university fails to provide assurances on preventing such incidents.
