Gold cheating
Ahmedabad: Vadaj police have registered a cheating and criminal breach of trust complaint against three members of a family in New Vadaj for allegedly duping a Kalupur jeweller of gold ornaments weighing 486.3g, valued at about Rs 48.6 lakh. The 56-year-old complainant runs a jewellery shop at Tamboliyo Khacho near Kaka Mehta’s Pole in Kalupur, according to police. He told investigators that his employee, Sanjay Das, introduced him to the accused in Aug 2025, saying they operated SS Ornaments, a jewellery-setting unit in New Vadaj. The complainant said Parth initially placed orders for gold rings and earrings, while the accused supplied 24-carat gold biscuits in return. On Dec 14, 2025, Dipen allegedly contacted the jeweller’s manager and ordered 12 sets of gold jewellery. On Dec 23, the complainant and an employee delivered six completed sets weighing 332.35g to the accused’s shop around 5.30pm. The same night, around 9 pm, Parth allegedly went to the complainant’s Kalupur shop and collected eight gold pendants, two mangalsutras and four pairs of earrings weighing 143.9g. Police said the total, including a previous outstanding balance of 10gm, came to 486.3g.

The accused then said the remaining six sets were not needed and promised to give gold biscuits against the jewellery already delivered. These transactions helped them win his confidence, the FIR stated. Khushbu allegedly gave a handwritten receipt. The complainant alleged that when he sought payment the next day, Parth delayed it. Later calls to Parth and Dipen went unanswered. Parth’s shop was found shut during two visits, and their phones were switched off. Download the TOI App.
