Ahmedabad : A former Bank of Baroda officer allegedly enhanced Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loan limits without borrowers’ requests or supporting documents, diverted loan proceeds to third-party accounts and routed a portion of the funds to himself through UPI transactions, according to two CBI cases investigating an alleged fraud of Rs 1.9 crore at the bank’s Savli and Sinor branches in Vadodara district.
The second FIR concerns alleged irregularities in KCC accounts at the Sinor branch, where Gokhale served as joint manager between July 28, 2023, and June 15, 2024. In one instance, a borrower’s loan limit was allegedly increased from Rs 2.4 lakh to Rs 15.4 lakh. At least 37 customers of the Sinor branch complained that around Rs 304.7 lakh had been diverted from their accounts.
The agency alleged that loan limits were enhanced without borrowers’ requests and without the required sanction or security documents. The CBI further alleged that loan proceeds were transferred to third-party accounts, and that portions of the funds were subsequently routed to Gokhale through UPI transactions. The Sinor case also names Tejal Tiwari, Girish Patel, Sagar Patel and Ajay Jinwala, along with unidentified persons. A bank inquiry reportedly found unauthorised loan-limit enhancements, missing appraisal and security documents, and transfers to unrelated accounts. The amount cited in the complaints is separate from the bank’s overall fraud-loss estimate.
