Mohammad Ayan Shaikh, with Shahpur police on Friday, the attack occurred around 10.15pm, according to a complaint lodged by his 23-year-old son.

Sajid had left his office in the shopping centre carrying Rs 15 lakh collected through a rotating savings group, locally known as a “vishi“, in a plastic bag. Police said that as Sajid was descending the staircase from the first floor, two men with their faces covered intercepted him, overpowered him and stuffed a cloth into his mouth. They allegedly dragged him to the basement, where two other accomplices were waiting.

Sajid suffered a deep injury to his left wrist and multiple stab wounds to his abdomen. Another accused, wearing a red T-shirt and formal trousers, allegedly grabbed the bag containing the cash. All four men then fled the spot. When Sajid failed to return home, his family grew worried. After an initial search proved unsuccessful, Ayan joined him along with Ashim’s friend Umar Farukh and relative Majid Shaikh. During a second search of the basement, they found Sajid lying semiconscious. Ayan removed the cloth from his father’s mouth, and the group rushed him out of the basement.
