Woman accuses husband of hiding first marriage, confinement and assault

A 26-year-old woman approached police alleging that a man concealed his first marriage and two children from her and married her and subsequently assaulted and confined her at their rented house in Vadaj.

Ahmedabad: A 26-year-old woman approached police alleging that a man concealed his first marriage and two children from her and married her and subsequently assaulted and confined her at their rented house in Vadaj. The woman said that on March 29, the accused took her to a marriage venue near the old High Court in Navrangpura, where they married according to Hindu rituals in the presence of two witnesses brought by him.

She said she quit her job after the marriage. The complainant has submitted a copy of her marriage certificate, while police said statements of family members and other witnesses would be recorded as part of the probe. They shifted to a rented flat in Vadaj and began living as husband and wife. Police began investigating the allegations of cheating, assault, confinement and forced physical relations.

On June 22, when the accused left for Rajkot for work, the woman allegedly left the house at night and returned to her parental home. She later stayed with her paternal aunt for around two months before returning to her family.
