He first allegedly killed Sunita with a grinding stone, wrapped her body in cloth and dumped it near Nandi Hills in Chikkaballapur district.
BENGALURU: A party invitation, a grinding stone and chemicals allegedly used to clean up bloodstains — a cab driver in Bengaluru is accused of murdering seven members of his wife’s family, including a seven-year-old boy, over a domestic dispute. He allegedly disposed of the bodies at different locations in Bengaluru and neighbouring districts, including Chikkaballapur. The victims have been identified as Sunita; her mother, Roopavati; her brothers, Shivakumar and Shankar; their wives, both named Divya; and Shankar’s seven-year-old son, Puneeth. Police have so far recovered Puneeth’s body, while efforts are under way to trace the remaining bodies.
The accused, identified as Indushekar, allegedly first murdered his wife, Sunita, before killing six members of her family over the next two days at his house, police sources said on Friday.
The couple had been married for about 20 years and frequently argued over Sunita’s visits to her parental home, according to preliminary findings. Indushekar first allegedly murdered Sunita using a grinding stone at their house on 59th Cross, near Bahsyam Circle, according to police sources. He subsequently switched off her mobile phone and told neighbours that she had gone on a trip, allegedly to avoid suspicion. He subsequently allegedly murdered their wives, both named Divya, his mother-in-law, Roopavati, and Shankar’s seven-year-old son, Puneeth, police sources said. After the killings, Indushekar allegedly used chemicals to clean the house and remove bloodstains, according to police sources. During questioning, Indushekar reportedly told police that he was distressed over domestic disputes.
Attempts by family members to reconcile them failed to resolve their differences. Indushekar allegedly resented the support Sunita received from her mother and brothers. Police suspect that the domestic dispute may have been the motive behind the killings. He wrapped her body in cloth and allegedly dumped it near Nandi Hills in Chikkaballapur district. The following day, Indushekar allegedly invited his brothers-in-law, Shivakumar and Shankar, to his house for a party and killed them using the grinding stone. During the investigation, police uncovered evidence pointing to the killings and arrested Indushekar. Investigators are questioning him to establish the exact sequence of events and where he disposed of the bodies. Police have seized the grinding stone allegedly used in the murders and the car suspected to have been used to transport the bodies. Puneeth’s body was recovered following an extensive search near Nandi Hills. Police are continuing efforts to locate the remaining bodies, which are suspected to have been dumped at different locations, including Charmadi Ghat in coastal Karnataka. Investigators are also examining whether anyone assisted him in carrying out the murders, including the possible role of his daughter. Police are yet to establish whether he acted alone. Another aspect of the investigation is how the killings went unnoticed despite the house being situated in a residential neighbourhood. Police are continuing their investigation to establish the exact timeline of the murders, the circumstances surrounding each killing and the locations where the remaining bodies were disposed of.
