He said he found her lying in a pool of blood. Deputy commissioner of police (west) Yathish N said the reason for the murder would be ascertained only after the accused were apprehended. Special teams have been formed to nab the suspects, police said.

Byatarayanapura police are investigating whether Venkatlakshmamma was killed for her valuables or out of enmity by someone known to her. When they checked on her, they found her dead with injuries to her head. Venkatlakshmamma owned four houses, and she lived alone in one of them, while one Lekhith rented another. The remaining two houses were vacant. Her only daughter had died of an illness around two years ago, and her husband had passed away a few years ago. Byatarayanapura police visited the spot and collected evidence. Venkatlakshmamma would always keep the compound gates and the door of her house locked as hardly anyone visited her. During his occasional visits, Lekhith would call her on her mobile phone to ask her to open the gates. He also helped her obtain medication for her diabetes once a month. Venkatlakshmamma owned properties in a nearby area too. Download the TOI App.
