Later, he came to know that his wife had been pushed into Bangladesh on July 23.

When Jumman came to know of her detention, he rushed to the police station, where he was allegedly “assured” that his wife would be released after some verification.

Kolkata: A migrant worker from North 24 Parganas, Sahida Fakir (38), whose name was deleted in SIR with an appeal pending before Appellate Tribunal, was picked up by Mumbai cops when she stepped out for groceries under ‘illegal Bangladeshi’ suspicion on July 19. Her husband moved Calcutta High Court pleading for an opportunity to produce all documents, including original electoral rolls dating back to 1952 to prove Sahida’s family and she are Indian nationals. It was also shown that Sahida’s grandfather’s name was recorded in the 1952 electoral roll as well. Her husband pleaded to court to allow them to produce original electoral rolls and records of 1952, 1971 and 2002 along with official family tree and land records. They were migrant labourers, residing nearly 2,000 kilometres away from home to earn their livelihood. On July 19, Sahida stepped out to buy groceries when she was allegedly picked up by CID’s Mumbai crime branch under the detection branch.

The division bench on Oct 14 permitted “one opportunity” to Jumman and authorities to submit their affidavits by Nov 25 and the matter will be taken up for hearing on the next day. In his petition, Jumman recalled the day Sahida was picked up from Mumbai.
