In what is being seen as one of the steepest price revisions in recent years, the revised rates came into effect on Wednesday (November 4), adding to the growing burden on consumers already grappling with rising dairy prices. BENGALURU: Just days after the Karnataka government delivered a double blow to the public with back-to-back hikes in milk and curd prices and bus fares, household budgets are set to come under further strain, with the Karnataka Cooperative Milk Producers Federation (KMF) sharply increasing the prices of Nandini ghee, butter and paneer.
The latest revision has pushed the price of ghee up by as much as Rs 135 per kg and butter by Rs 140 per kg, while paneer prices have also been increased. With milk prices having been raised recently, consumers will now have to shell out significantly more for everyday dairy essentials and products that are staples in many kitchens. The impact is likely to extend well beyond household kitchens. Hotels, restaurants, bakeries and sweet manufacturers, which depend heavily on ghee, butter and paneer, are facing a sharp rise in input costs. The increased expenses could eventually translate into higher prices for sweets, bakery products and restaurant food, leaving consumers to bear the cascading impact of back-to-back price hikes.
