Kalyani at Ulsoor Lake which has been used as an immersion tank has received a modern makeover
Officials said the dedicated kalyani, measuring about 5.5 metres in depth and spread across nearly 650sqft, has been prepared to handle the large inflow of idols expected over the 15-day festival period. Immersion is allowed only on alternate days Authorities have scheduled Ganesha idol immersion at Ulsoor Lake kalyani only on Sept 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 27 and 28. We have arranged mobile tanks at four sides of the lake so that smaller idols can be immersed there itself,” said a lake engineer with BCCC.
Bengaluru Central City Corporation (BCCC) has announced that idol immersion at the specially constructed kalyani within the lake premises will be permitted on select days. Bengaluru : Months after rejuvenation efforts at Ulsoor lake, civic authorities are preparing to receive over one lakh Ganesha idols during this year’s Gowri-Ganesha festival, while attempting to ensure the waterbody does not bear the environmental cost of the celebrations. Authorities estimate that more than one lakh idols could reach the immersion point this year. “Extra precautions have been taken to ensure the lake does not get polluted and all Ganesh idols are immersed only in the kalyani. The corporation has reiterated that only eco-friendly idols will be permitted for immersion. Officials warned that PoP idols found on sale would be seized and legal action initiated against violators.
