28-year-old man killed after minister Jagadeeswari's car hits 2-wheeler in Chennai

CHENNAI: A 28-year-old man was killed after a car belonging to Tamil Nadu Social Welfare Minister Jagadeeswari hit his two-wheeler on the Trichy-Chennai National Highway near Kattankulathur around 12.30am on Monday. Police seized the Ertiga and arrested its driver, Chinna Agni, 28, of Madurai.

Police said he was crossing the highway near Kattankulathur junction when the Maruti Ertiga hit his two-wheeler. Police arrested the car driver and registered a case of rash and negligent driving. Iraiyanbu, a resident of Kattankulathur in Chengalpattu district, was returning home on a Honda Dio after attending a temple festival. He was thrown off the vehicle and died at the spot. A case was registered against him under sections relating to rash and negligent driving on a public road and causing death by negligence. Police were questioning him and examining CCTV footage and other evidence to establish how the accident occurred.

Personnel in the escort vehicle alerted the traffic police and arranged for the victim’s body to be shifted. The Guduvanchery Traffic Investigation Wing police sent the body to Chengalpattu District Government Hospital for postmortem.
